Clash of Clans is a free-to-play mobile game of the RTS (real-time strategy) genre. The game has built up a community by offering RTS gameplay similar to Starcraft, but with a distinction between attack and defense. The goal is no longer to destroy the enemy base, but to steal its resources, which can then be used to improve your village over time.
This means you can launch an attack on an enemy base in around 5 minutes (avoiding the 30 to 50 minutes of preparation required in Starcraft 😉). The defense part consists of building a village with utility, defensive, and resource-producing buildings that automatically rebuild after each attack.
The most enjoyable part of the game is seeing your village evolve. You start with a few buildings at HDV 1 (Town Hall level 1) and end up with a powerful stronghold at HDV 17.
My opinion on the game:
I really enjoy playing this game on public transport and watching my little village grow, as well as being able to launch a quick attack from time to time. The community aspect with the clan is nice during group events, even if I’m not active enough for clan wars 😅.
Economically speaking, the game is good as a free-to-play game, and with a little patience, it’s possible to develop without any real barriers.

The Attack:
It’s time to raid enemy villages. But first you’ll need to prepare your army, assemble your troops, and prepare your spells. Choose your ground and flying troops, 4 heroes, your spells, and siege engines. Each unit has its own weight, which helps balance the game (an army with infinite PK will remain a dream).
Once you’ve got your dream team ready, it’s time to get started.
To do this, matchmaking is done based on the level of your Town Hall and your trophies.
You can check out your enemy’s village and assess your chances of winning before launching your attack.
But above all, check whether the attack is worthwhile from an economic point of view, as the resources are displayed.
Once you’ve chosen your prey, all you have to do is put your strategy in place and launch your attack.
Once you have secured victory, you will receive looted resources and trophies showcasing your skill.
Every 600 trophies (an average of 20 trophies per total victory) will advance you to the next rank.
To progress from the Bronze League to the Legend League, you will need patience and a lot of skill. Don’t worry, the Master and Titan Leagues are already quite challenging.
Defense:
In this part of the game, the goal is to create an impregnable village filled with defenses, traps, and anything else that could prevent your enemies from taking your town hall.
To organize the village, you can freely move buildings around and modify the layout as you wish. Each building has a size (represented by squares) and defines an area where your opponent cannot place their troops (highlighted white area).
You can then purchase or upgrade buildings by spending resources obtained through attacks or extractors. There are three main resources:
- Gold, which can be used to upgrade defense buildings and the Town Hall.
- Elixir, which can be used to upgrade utility buildings to launch attacks.
- Dark elixir, which can be used to upgrade heroes (available after Town Hall level 6).
Each building upgrade requires a certain amount of resources and an upgrade time (ranging from 30 seconds to 21 days), which can be accelerated using gems, the game’s currency.
While a defense building is being upgraded, it becomes inactive until the upgrade is complete. You can then reposition your buildings to defend yourself more effectively against attacks and avoid losing trophies and resources. Attacks can occur at any time while you are offline.
The Clans:
Are you alone? Don’t worry, a clan is there for you.
The game takes its name from the community groups that can get together to organize clan wars, protect their capital and attack others, or simply give each other troops via the clan castle.
The game developers have also added events to enrich the clan experience.
- The Capital Assault: Attack the enemy capital with boosted troops in cooperation to destroy huge villages.
- Clan Games: Complete small individual missions to increase the clan’s total points and earn the best rewards.
The most important part of a clan is the reason why the best players come together and compete against each other.
Clan wars
Two clans with the same number of players (5, 10, or 15) battle each other to collect as many stars as possible from the opposing villages. To do this, the first period is the preparation day, during which the two clans can observe each other and give troops to their allies’ clan castles. Then, each member is allowed two attacks. These must be carried out against the enemy village within 24 hours. At the end of the day, the clan with the most stars is considered the WINNER.
The clan league
The league is a week-long clan war in which eight clans battle each other one after the other. It works in a similar way to a clan war, but players only have one attack per village to ensure the best attack. At the end of the week, the scores from all the wars are added up. The top 2 clans move up to the next league, while the bottom 2 are relegated to the lower league.
Night Village
This village is a secondary base that allows you to face new defenses, with smaller and less complicated villages than the main one. In short, it’s a lighter version of the first village. This village comes with its own worker, its own resources, and even unique units, similar to the basic units but with powers that make their placement and timing more strategic.
I find this village nice for small attacks when you want to have fun without thinking too much, while not just spamming electro-dragons.
This village is a good addition, but unfortunately, due to its low popularity, it’s a bit neglected by players and developers.
However, if you upgrade it to the maximum, you can unlock an additional worker in your main village, which is always interesting.
